Sports Notes 09.16.13


In last night´s first game against Ballard, The Lady Tornado softball team lost 7-5. We missed a few opportunities but all in all it was a great game. In game 2 the Tornado played extremely well beating Ballard 12-0. There is a game tonight (Tuesday 9/17) is at Lone Oak high school softball field at 5:30 vs Lone Oak.

PMS Baseball Defeats Massac County

The PMS Tornado baseball team beat Massac County last night 6-2, improving their record to 10-7 for the season. Chris Chumbler pitched 5 solid innings, allowing only 2 runs off 3 hits, and also contributed at the plate by going 1 for 2. Isaac Humphrey led the team in hitting by going 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored, Elijah Pleasants went 2 for 2, Eric Riffe went 1 for 2 with a run scored, and Will Thompson went 1 for 3. Also scoring a run each were Jaylen Jernigan and Rodriguez Thomas. More +

PMS Baseball Round Robin Results

The PMS Tornado baseball team beat Livingston County 4-3 in game one of this weekend’s tournament and lost to Reidland Middle, 9-3 in game two. In game one, Sammy Mundy led the team in hitting and threw two runners out in the last inning to secure the win. Chris Chumbler pitched a good game allowing only one hit and three runs in five innings. Scoring runs for the Tornado were Rodriguez Thomas with two, Eric Riffe and Jackson Fristoe with one each. In game two, Lance Butler came in relief and pitched three good inning allowing only two runs. The Tornado was led in hitting by Eric Riffe, who had two hits while scoring two runs, and Isaac Humphrey, who also had two hits while scoring a run. More +

Boys Soccer Wins District Championship

The Paducah Middle boys soccer team capped an undefeated regular season with a district championship, defeating Lone Oak 2-1 in the championship match on May 3. More +

Miller Advances to State Wrestling Tournament

Paducah Middle Student Derek Miller was fourth in the 115 pound division at the first region high school wrestling tournament held at Caldwell County on February 11 and will advance to the state meet, which will be held in Georgetown February 17-18. Congratulations! More +

Tornado Take Runner-Up In District Soccer Tourney

Paducah Middle Boys' Soccer Team brought home the district runner-up title for the season. They saw a disappointing loss to Reidland Middle in the final game Thursday night, after defeating the Greyhounds in two previous season matches. The boys ended the regular season with 8 wins, 2 ties, and no losses.

Lady Tornado Wins At Calloway

The Lady Tornado jumped out to an early lead Thursday night (August 27) against Calloway County, scoring 12 runs in the first inning. Emily Do-a-lot, Elizabeth Behrens, Karlee Humphrey, and Layne Morgan were each 2-3 to lead the offense. Shaelyn Tyler pitched a complete game, allowing one hit to shut down the Laker offense. Ladies play tonight at Hickman, with the bus leaving at 3.30 p.m.

Lady Tornado Comeback Falls Short

The Lady Tornado suffered a heartbreaking loss Tuesday (August 25) to Lone Oak 9-8 in the last inning. Down 9-3 entering the Tornado’s last at bat, they stormed back to make it a 9-8 game, but fell short. Ladies showed their "never give up" attitude. Karlee Humphrey put the Tornado on the board with a drive over the left field fence for a three-run homerun. Elizabeth Behrens was 2-3, and Layne Morgan added a couple of stolen bases. More +

Football Wins Two Vs. Marshall

Paducah Middle School Football Ball teams got off to a great great start Tuesday (August 25). The 7th grade team beat Marshall County 20 - 8 on great play by the entire team. The 8th grade team controlled the entire game and won 30 - 0. Both wins were the result of contributions by every player. More +

Paducah Middle School Veteran Track Athletes Lead as Youth Gain Experience For the Future

Led by veteran tracksters Chris Flemons, Donald Overstreet and Tyler Lynn, the PMS boys track and field team went to Lexington, Kentucky on May 9 to defend their champion runner-up title from last year and a to take a shot at capturing the outright championship. Over 90 middle school teams and 1,500 athletes were represented at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Middle School Track and Field Championship.

Girls' Soccer Wins, Track Teams Finish Second

Taylor Drennan's second half "hat trick" led the Tornado Girls Soccer to another solid win Thursday night at Heath. Tied after a tough first half 1-1 the Tornado slogged through the rain and mud to a convincing 4-1 victory. Sabel Overlin opened the Tornado scoring by connecting on a direct kick.
