Shively Appointed to AdvancED State Council

Paducah Public Schools assistant superintendent Donald I. Shively has been appointed to the Kentucky State Council for AdvancED, an accreditation organization dedicated to providing tools, resources, and processes that facilitate improvement for educational institutions. The organization serves more than 30,000 institutions, providing educational technologies, advocacy, and improvement and accreditation services to education providers of all types in their pursuit of excellence in serving students.

Shively, who has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in a 17 year career in education, will serve a three year term on the Kentucky state council. Goals for the state council include increasing the number of accredited schools, leading the state conversation about school quality, and increasing volunteer participation in accreditation and professional development activities.

"I'm honored to be asked to serve on the AdvancED state council," said Shively. "I appreciate their work in the area of improving educational institutions.

After serving on a district accreditation team in 2012 and then leading our district through the accreditation process last year, it was evident to me how the accreditation process can improve a district in each of the five AdvancED standard's areas: purpose and direction; governance and leadership; teaching and assessing for learning; resources and support systems; and using results for continuous improvement.

Serving on the state board will allow me to ensure that Paducah Public Schools has firsthand access to educational innovation that is happening in Kentucky and around the globe."
