Elementary Honor Choirs Perform At KMEA All District

Honor choirs from Clark, McNabb, and Morgan participated in the First District Kentucky Music Educators Association Choir Concert recently in Lovett Auditorium at Murray State University.

Select fifth graders from over 25 schools in the region spent the day at Murray State. Choir members collaborated on six songs, joining honor choirs from regional middle schools for the finale, "This Little Light of Mine." The combined choirs, over 300 members strong, performed to a packed house.

World Civ and U.S. History Students Take First and Third In Regional Competition

Congratulations to the PTHS World Civilization and U.S. History teams, who came away with first and third place in the annual West Kentucky Regional History Competition held at Murray State University on March 3.

A total of sixteen schools and 320 students from West Tennessee and West Kentucky were represented at the competition.  Multiple choice History exams were taken in U.S. and World History. Honors were given to students with the highest individual scores and the top three performing schools were honored as well.

Paducah Tilghman took first place in World Civilization and third place in U.S. History.  This marks the sixth consecutive year that Tilghman has placed in the top three on the World Civilization exam.history_bowl_winners-5550.jpghistory_bowl_winners-5850.jpg

Boys' Basketball Regional Tournament Photos Posted

Photos from the boys' semi-final game against Marshall County have been posted.  You can see them here.

The loss to Marshall County ended a quality season for the boys' team.  They end the 2008-09 season with a 22-6 record.  They were district champions and made it to semi-finals in the region.boys_regional_tourney-5826.jpg

Lady Tornado Regional Tournament Photos Posted

Photos from the girls' Region 1 final between Paducah Tilghman and Marshall County have been posted. You can see them here.

The loss to Marshall County ended a great season for the Lady Tornado.  They finish the 2008-09 season with a 24-8 record. They were District champions and Runner-Up in Region 1.

Owens Scores 36 On ACT English, Reading Sections

Paducah Tilghman junior Paige Owens has scored a perfect 36 on two sections of the ACT. She scored a 36 on the Reading section in June, and scored a 36 on the English section in February.

Owens is involved in Varsity Soccer, Beta Club, Recycling Club, Concert and Chamber Choir, and Pep Club. For the 2008 soccer season,  she received Academic All State honors, was named to the All District team and was honorable mention on the All Region Team.owens_paige-5554.jpg

Owings Named A Finalist In State Poetry Out Loud Competition

PTHS junior Alex Owings was named one of ten finalists in the fourth annual Poetry Out Loud state finals  presented by the Kentucky Arts Council and hosted by Western Hills High School in Frankfort on March 3. Owings was the winner of the school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition held at Tilghman on February 12.

Participants in the Kentucky state finals were the school winners from 28 high schools that completed a unit of study on poetry with materials provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and an artist residency provided by the Kentucky Arts Council before the contests began.owings.alex.jpg

Board Meeting Scheduled for March 16

The regular meeting of the Paducah Board of Education will be held Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m.

This meeting will be held at the Board of Education office, 800 Caldwell Street, Paducah, Kentucky.
