Tilghman Juniors Kristen Watkins and Taylor Willis Selected For MSU Commonwealth Honors Academy
Watkins is a member of Tilghman’s distinguished Band of Blue, receiving All-District honors. In addition, she plays the trombone in the school’s concert band. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and the Concert Choir. She volunteers at Lourdes Hospital and, along with the PTHS band, has participated in numerous civic parades and community events. She is a member of Christ Community Church where she serves as a youth leader. She is the daughter of Jessica and Tim Watkins.
Willis is a member of the varsity academic team, recently representing Tilghman at the Kentucky State Governor’s Cup competition after earning the regional runner up title in composition. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. In addition, she competes on the PTHS varsity soccer team and PTHS cross country team. She volunteers as an advisor on the Paducah Middle and Clark Elementary academic teams. She is the daughter of Julie and Chris Sheffer and Gary Willis.
Upon completion of the Academy, students receive six hours of university credit, have the opportunity to take three hours of tuition-free university courses at Murray State University during the subsequent fall and spring semesters and are awarded a four-year, $2,000-per-year housing scholarship to attend Murray State University.
