Paducah Tilghman council organizes search for principal
Davis began his Tilghman career as a teacher in 1992. He succeeded Jerald Ellington as principal.
The board began its Wednesday meeting by reviewing responses to an online survey asking what people are looking for in the new principal. Notable responses from the 265 respondents included:
> The principal's role includes recruiting and retaining quality educators: 82 percent strongly agree, 17 percent agree.
> The principal's role includes understanding the relationship between student achievement and instructional staff, classroom environment and school climate: 82 percent strongly agree, 17 percent agree.
> The principal must have previous administrative experience: 85 percent agree, 15 percent disagree.
> The next principal must have classroom experience: 94 percent agree, 6 percent disagree.
> The next principal must have experience dealing with a diverse student population: 92 percent agree, 8 percent disagree.
> It is important to have a principal from within the Paducah Independent School District: 29 percent strongly agree, 15 percent agree, 35 percent neutral, 16 percent disagree, 5 percent strongly disagree.
SBDMC members used the survey as a guideline in establishing the ideal criteria for the next principal. The council said it would seek someone who could uphold the school's tradition of excellence and the school's brand, have experience with diversity, show continuous improvement and be a good communicator with students, faculty, staff, parents and the community.
