Hassel Receives Paducah Life Arts Scholarship

Students who applied for this scholarship were asked to demonstrate their interest and involvement in the arts in their schools and in and around the Paducah Community. They were also asked to describe their interest in attending the Broadway Workshop program as well as how living in Paducah has helped them develop their artistic talents.

Hassel participates in choir, band, and theater at Paducah Tilghman. He has been in several musicals including "OKLAHOMA!" at PTHS and "How I Became a Pirate" at Market House Theatre.

“It is amazing to live in Paducah," Hassel said. " I have three awesome theaters practically in my backyard (referring to the Carson Center, Market House, and PTHS) and I get to do what I love and learn more about music and performing.”

Micheal was also one of only 25 across the state of Kentucky to be accepted into the Governor’s School for the Arts in the area of Musical Theater and will be attending this three week program hosted by Centre College at the end of June. He is looking forward to learning, working hard, and meeting new people in the Broadway Workshop at the Carson Center to help him further prepare for GSA.

Broadway Workshop is a five-day musical theater intensive which offers 50 young actors of all experience levels the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of musical theater. Broadway Workshop at the Carson Center participants will take classes in singing, dancing, and acting while learning and rehearsing ensemble-based Broadway musical numbers for a final showcase performance for friends & family on the Carson Center stage. Participants, who attend from across the country, also get to experience a Broadway Musical performance, Young Frankenstein at the Market House Theatre. The camp is directed by Marc Tumminelli, (casting director and Director of Broadway Workshop New York) and is taught by top theater professionals, who have worked on Broadway, in film, on TV, and at theaters across the country.
