Tilghman's Hancock and McGee Named State Champions in Kentucky English and Language Arts Writing Contest

Sophomore Emery Wainscott was awarded third place in the state for her poem entitled “You Call That Blue?” Fellow sophomore Connor Trimble was awarded third place in the state’s narrative writing competition for his piece entitled “Memoir: The Odyssey.”

The writing contest is sponsored and judged by English and language arts teachers from around the state, and the competition is open to all Kentucky high school students. This is the fourth year Paducah Tilghman students have submitted entries, and the fourth year PTHS students have earned state championship titles.

Will Black, Paducah Public School’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, said, ”These awards are a testament to the strength of Tilghman's English department and its tradition of academic excellence in both creative and argumentative writing."
