Thirteen Tilghman students selected for All-State Choir
Thirteen Tilghman Choir members have been selected for the Kentucky Music Educators Association All-State Chorus: Seniors Nathan Hawkins, Elizabeth Katz, Maggie Malone, Lucas Reed, and Millie Wyant, Juniors Bradley Duncan, Micheal Hassel, and Abigail Hawkins, and Sophomores Zane Birdsong, Reagan Davidson, Claire Kelly, Ariana Mundy, and Michael-Ellen Walden. These students will travel to Louisville in February, where they will sing in one of three choruses: Men’s, Women’s, or Mixed. They will spend the first two days rehearsing music with all the selected students under the direction of renowned directors, and on the third night, they will perform a full concert at The Kentucky Center.
The audition process for the All-State Choruses is very difficult; students must perform in a quartet piece selected by the Choral Chair, perform a solo from the piece selected by the judges, and complete a sight-reading audition individually. Around 1200 Kentucky high school students audition and around 500 students are actually selected for the Choirs. It is one of the highest honors for high school vocalists in the state of Kentucky. Tilghman had the most students chosen for KMEA in the district.
