Tilghman Senior to Compete for Tennessee Mountain Bike State Championship
Since Kentucky does not have a league for high school cyclists, the MCHS team competes in Tennessee. The Tennessee High School Cycling League is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). There are currently 15 NICA leagues in 14 states, with two in California.
The Marshall County High team (for which Tillson competed in 2013 and 2014 when she was a student there) won every race during the Tennessee Cycling League’s first two seasons, becoming the state champions both years. Tillson was the Sophomore Women's State Champ in 2013 and the Varsity Women's State Champ in 2014. After moving to Tilghman last year, Jessica was allowed to continue competing in the Tennessee league as an independent rider.
The season has been a challenging one for Tillson- she was battling mononucleosis and had a flat tire in her first race and had a nose bleed in her third race, but she’s currently in second place for varsity women, just 30 points behind the leader. The state championships will be in Sewanee, Tennessee on November 8.
