Supplemental School Year Request Information for Parents

Last month, Governor Beshear signed Senate Bill 128 into law that allows each school district in Kentucky the opportunity to allow "a supplemental school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to help them get back on track academically" if the local board of education approves the new legislation.

In addition, the new law would allow current high school student-athletes (current grades 9 through 12 in 2020-21 school year) a fifth year of eligibility if they do not turn nineteen (19) before August 1 of their fifth year of high school.

The Supplemental School Year is available to all students grades K-12.

Paducah Public School students have until May 1 to submit this request to the Paducah Independent Board of Education. The board of education has until June 1 to decide whether to accept all requests, or no requests.

If you are the parent or guardian of a student in Paducah Public Schools, please complete the form to indicate your interest or lack of interest in the supplemental school year program. Please complete the form for each student in your household.
You can connect to the form here: https://forms.office.com/r/9yBBBXpvkt

Community-Wide Kindergarten Ready Drive-Thru Event April 24

The McCracken County Early Childhood Council is hosting a Kindergarten Ready Drive Thru event on Saturday, April 24 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm in the parking lot of Heartland Church, 4777Alben Barkley Drive.
This is the 8th year the local Early Childhood Council has hosted a community-wide kindergarten event for families with children starting school in August.  Last year’s event was cancelled due to covid-19.  This year, the Council felt compelled to safely reach out to families in order to give information about getting ready to start school for these young children.
Kristy Lewis, Chairperson for the McCracken County Early Childhood Council said, “The purpose of the McCracken Co Early Childhood Council is to build innovative, collaborative partnerships that promote school readiness for children so that all children can begin school ready to learn or have the proper supports in place to be successful.  Our Council felt that a drive thru event was the safest way to get this important school readiness information to our families.”
