Paducah Tilghman Naval Junior ROTC cadet Audrey Shirk has been guaranteed an appointment to the Coast Guard Academy Scholars program (CGAS). The CGAS program sends students with high potential for one year of preparatory school to develop academically, physically and militarily prior to admission to the United States Coast Academy.
Upon completion of the CGAS program, Shirk is guaranteed admission to the United States Coast Guard Academy class of ’28 and will be considered for direct appointment for class of ‘27 during the regular admissions cycle. Shirk was one of less than ten in the nation to receive a letter of assurance for CGAS.
The CGAS plus Shirk’s four years at the academy amounts to a more than $300,000 all-inclusive scholarship. Additionally, she will be paid during school and has a guaranteed career in the Coast Guard.
