The Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS) named the Paducah Public Schools Police Department one of its “Promising Programs” at the Safe Schools and Communities Conference in Georgetown, Kentucky June 9, 2026.
The Promising Programs award, sponsored by KCSS and the Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers (KYASRO), offers the competitive honor to school resource officer programs across the state. Programs are evaluated in the areas of management protocols, school activities, and personnel standards. Awardees also receive a $1000 donation.
“What makes [Paducah Public Schools’] program truly outstanding is its commitment to innovation,” said KCSS Executive Director Jon Aker. “Rather than relying on traditional municipal police protocols, they have intentionally developed school specific policies and procedures tailored to meet the precise needs of their educational environment. Every single day these officers prioritize prevention over reaction.”
“Keeping our students, staff and community safe is our top priority each day," said superintendent Dr. Donald Shively. "Our district has invested in an experienced law enforcement team committed to protecting – and also caring for – everyone in our buildings and on our grounds. We’re proud of the work they are doing and honored it's been recognized by the authority for safe schools in the Commonwealth.”
