Clark, McNabb and Morgan Elementary Parents and Guardians,

Due to the early dismissal for severe weather on April 13, it will be necessary to add an additional week to the extended days for Clark, Morgan, and McNabb Elementary schools that were announced on April 12.

The school day will be extended by 16 minutes from Monday, May 2 – Friday, May 13 for Clark, Morgan, and McNabb Elementary schools. Our elementary schools will dismiss at 3:11 p.m. May 2 – May 13.

Our elementary schools are the only schools that will need to have an extended day. Please see below for an explanation of why the extended days are needed and why an additional week has been added.

Please make a note of the extended days in your family calendar. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we make these required adjustments to the school schedule.

Explanation:
The extended days are needed to meet the 1062 instructional hours that are required by Kentucky State Law.

Only Clark, Morgan, and McNabb Elementaries need an extended day because they have a different length of school day than PMS and PTHS. Since their school day length is different, missed days due to weather impacts our elementary schools differently.

The school day was extended for our elementaries by one week on April 12 to make up the time needed to meet the 1062 instructional hours requirement, but there was no extra time built in to cover any future early dismissals.

The additional week of extended time will cover the shortfall created by the early dismissal for severe weather on April 13. It will also give us a cushion in the event of any future early dismissals due to storms.
