Paducah Public Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Paducah Tilghman Softball Complex being built adjacent to Brooks Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Public officials, representatives from Paducah Tilghman, players, and community supporters all gathered to celebrate this huge milestone for Paducah Tilghman.

“This is exactly what we dreamed of happening, and it looks like it’s coming true,” Mikey Myers, head coach of Paducah Tilghman softball said. “The girls are pretty ecstatic about it, and I myself am too. Now I’m thinking if we get a field like this, we better be ready to compete.”

The 3.5 million dollar construction is scheduled to be done by spring of 2026, with hopes that the squad can debut the field for the 2026 season.

The importance of the softball program can often be overshadowed by the rich history of the football and baseball programs, but this new field is a commitment to equal opportunity and the bright future of this program.

“We’re trying to say that we don’t get overlooked anymore,” Myers said. “It’s all about the girls. It’s nothing to do with me, and I keep saying that. They put in all the hard work and effort, and we’re just happy this project has come to life.”

Now upgrading from a field that lacks restrooms or running water, this complex brings a spark back into the softball program at Tilghman. It allows innovation and the opportunity for events like the First Region tournament and others that showcase the vision the city has for the sport and school.

The construction of this complex emphasizes the idea of Paducah Tilghman softball as a high-level program, as they have proven in the past, and fosters the community’s efforts to uplift the girls’ athletics program.
