Three Paducah Tilghman High School seniors signed athletic scholarships in a signing ceremony held at PTHS on May 11.
Taveus Jackson signed a scholarship to play football for the University of Rio Grande (Ohio).
During Jackson’s four years at PTHS, the football team had a 46-10 overall record, winning one state championship, two state semi-final runner-ups, and three regional championships.
“We didn’t always think that we were going to get here,” said PTHS Football head coach Sean Thompson, “but for TK to have this opportunity to continue his playing career and be wanted outside of Paducah for his skills and ability on the field is special.”
Blane Kolb signed a scholarship to play soccer for Asbury University. Kolb was a multi-sport athlete, playing soccer, football, and track and field.
“I’m thankful for a player like Blane,” said PTHS Soccer head coach Tanner Reed. “Blane has all the talent that he needs in the world. He knows how to train. He knows how to work hard. We’ve instilled him with a work ethic where he’s not just willing to settle but will want to get into the program and start playing, and then will want to start, and then will want to be captain. The sky is the limit for Blane.”
Myiesha Smith signed a scholarship to play basketball for Culver Stockton College (Missouri). Smith was a multi-sport athlete, competing in basketball, track and field, and soccer.
“It’s a blessing to see one of my own (players) as your coach, sign,” said PTHS Girls Basketball head coach Howard Dillard. “Myiesha, I want you to remember where you came from, how you got here and how much work you put in. By doing this today, you are showing an example for your sisters, so they know what they need to do as well.”
