A softball player prepares to catch a ground ball

Paducah Tilghman’s Camrynn McMinn has made the commitment to keep her softball playing days going after high school, committing to play college ball at Georgetown College.

For McMinn and those who helped her through the recruitment process, Georgetown was a no-brainer.

“I’ve been closest to Coach Thornton more than any other coaches I have talked to,” McMinn said. “I really liked the atmosphere and when I talked to the girls there they seemed like people I could hang around with and play well with.

“I talked to so many people close to me throughout this process and they all said Georgetown seemed like a no-brainer for me, especially Coach Mallory, who played at Georgetown.”

Heading into her senior season, McMinn is locked in, ready to enjoy her senior season without the pressure of impressing onlooking college coaches.

“Now that I’m committed, it’s just so relieving because I can just focus on playing softball,” McMinn said. “The current process is so overwhelming. Now I don’t have to stress about coaches watching me and I can just stay on track, play my best and help my team win.”

Last season, McMinn had 24 runs on 39 hits with 19 RBI and two homers with a .287 batting average. She also saw a rare 1.1 innings in the circle. She helped the Lady Blue Tornado to a 21-17 record, where they made it to the semifinal round of the First Region tournament.

Her time as a Lady Tornado has been crucial in getting her to this point and allowing her to commit to playing college ball. Her first interaction with Coach Thornton came through an introduction from Coach Johnna.

“Ever since I was in eighth grade, I remember Coach Johnna introducing me to Coach Thornton and ever since, I’ve remembered that first conversation with him.”

This past season, Georgetown went 17-22 on the year and 6-12 in Mid-South Conference play.

With her college decision behind her, McMinn can now turn her attention toward one final season in a Paducah Tilghman uniform before beginning the next chapter of her softball career at Georgetown. For now, though, she’s focused on making the most of her senior season and helping the Lady Blue Tornado make another postseason run.
