The Paducah Schools STAY (School + Transition Services for Youth) Program has donated books related to hunger and homelessness to the district's school libraries to help raise awareness about Hunger and Homelessness Month, which occurs in November. The books are being provided through a local grant, said Heather Anderson, the district's McKinney-Vento Liaison who directs the program.
"Our mayor has declared November Hunger and Homelessness Awareness month for the city of Paducah," said Anderson. "We hope the addition of these books to our libraries will encourage students and parents to understand the issues of hunger and homeless more deeply and consider ways that they can help their neighbors who may be struggling."
Paducah Middle School Library Media Specialist Jessica Ringstaff said the library was grateful to receive the books.
" With hunger and homelessness come a diversity of other problems that also get presented in books, so you will have people with different abilities, different backgrounds, different economic statuses, and different health issues presented in these books. So not only is this bringing advocacy to the issues of hunger and homelessness, but also a lot of other issues as well."

The Kentucky Center for School Safety’s Safe Schools Week is October 20-26!
This week aims to “Level Up” school safety with the goal of raising awareness about various aspects of school safety and empowering students, teachers, parents, and the community to take proactive measures to create a safe learning environment.
Over the course of this week, we will be featuring our Student Resource Officers at each school and share a quick fact about school safety in our schools.

School Safety Fact:
Each year we must review and update our all-hazards approach Emergency Operations Plan. We review those plans with staff prior to the school year and share them with all the first responder agencies in McCracken County. The Emergency Operations Plans include conducting over 25 school safety drills for fire, bomb threat, lockdown, severe weather, earthquake, reverse evacuation, and shelter in place.
