On Tuesday, August 5, the Tornado and Lady Tornado golfers competed in the 2A Sectional 1 Qualifier and turned in outstanding performances.

For the third consecutive year, Senior Captain McCall Moore captured the overall individual girl's championship with an impressive round of 75. With that performance, she earned her place at the 2A State Tournament in Owensboro as the Section 1 representative.

Senior Captain Gray Edwards battled hard but came up just short after a three-person playoff for the boys’ individual state berth.

Both teams performed exceptionally well. The boys shot a 331 to finish as the 2A Sectional 1 team runner-up. Gray Edwards led the way, while Sophomore Liam Stewart and Junior Axl Young each earned top 10 finishes. 7th grader Benji Johnson and Senior Anderson Ballert also contributed valuable scores to help the team secure the result. The boys team has already secured two top 4 finishes this season.

The girls posted their best team score in several years, narrowly missing the runner-up trophy by just two strokes. This marks the team’s second third-place finish of the season, a strong showing for such a young group.
Senior McCall Moore led the way, with Freshman Anna Wood earning her first top 10 finish of the season. 7th grader Addi Wood recorded her best performance of the year with a 13th-place finish, while Junior Story Hobbs and Senior Claire Tucker were also key contributors for the Lady Tornado.

Construction of the Paducah Public Schools solar field project is in its final phase. The project began with the demolition of the old Forest Hills School in March 2026. The solar field’s construction is funded by an $875,000 Department of Energy grant received in the fall of 2024.

At the February meeting of the Paducah Board of Education Superintendent Donald Shively said the solar field, which will feed into the Paducah Power System grid, will provide a practical learning experience for students.

“There’s a revenue source for us, but really the focus is on teaching electricity,” Shively said. “Engaging kids in electrical engineering, becoming electricians, and having a real-world site to take them to for hands-on learning. It’s right in Forest Hills, so that’s four minutes from here, and it’ll be our real-world teaching spot. We got awarded this grant in the fall of ‘24, and when you think through what’s going on at the DOE site with not only nuclear enrichment, but now the AI data center that looks to be announced here in the next few weeks, all of that revolves around electricity.”

The Paducah Public Schools Board of Education approved the first phase of a renovation project to bring a culinary arts program to Paducah Tilghman High School and demolition of the existing space has begun. The first phase of the renovation project will focus on bringing gas stove equipment up to date.

At the May meeting of the Paducah Board of Education, Superintendent Donald Shively told the board that while the district hadn’t seen the need for a culinary arts program in the past, demand has been growing from the school’s business partners and student surveys have revealed interest. The goal is to add a culinary program as part of Paducah Tilghman's family consumer science pathway.

“We want our children to be able to go out and easily transition into the workforce, and that is a viable opportunity here in Paducah, which is kind of the center spot of Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois and Western Tennessee,” Shively said. “What we need in order to give our students the opportunities and the hands-on training that they would need to transition in today's workforce is a little different than the lab we had.”

The projected cost for the renovated culinary lab is $850,000. The culinary lab is set to open in August 2027.
