Dear PPS Parents and Guardians,
Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 2, 2022, Paducah Public Schools is relaxing masking requirements. Masks will be optional in all school settings, including on buses.
On Monday, district leadership received an updated recommendation from the Kentucky Department for Public Health regarding masking from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) focused on COVID-19 community levels. Combined with the new recommendations, our district leadership has reviewed the local positivity rates, the Kentucky Incidence Rate Map, the number of COVID patients in our local hospitals, and our total number of positive cases in McCracken County. There is a significant decrease in all these measures compared to a month ago. We also see significant decreases in the number of COVID positive students and staff compared to a month ago.
As outlined in the guidance, our schools will maintain the following baseline strategies:
Students and staff are encouraged to remain up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations
- 5-day isolation followed by 5-day masking for individuals with COVID-19
- Sick individuals should stay home
- On-site testing remains available for sick or exposed persons

PTHS NJROTC competed against 7 other JROTC Units in Color Guard and Knock-out at the Apollo High School Drill Invitational on February 26. The First-Year Color Guard, under the command of Cadet Dontae Ellis-Maxwell and assisted by cadets Levi Brown, Landyn Burnett and Samuel Stuber, took 3rd Place. Congratulations!
Paducah Tilghman defeats McCracken County High School 50-47 to win the 2nd District championship and end the Mustangs 50-game win streak against Region 1 opponents. Go Big Blue!
Paducah Tilghman junior Madison Patel finished third in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke and eighth in the 50 Yard Freestyle at the KHSAA Girls and Boys Swim Championship this past weekend. Congratulations, Madison!
Kendra Johnston is Paducah Tilghman's first ever girl's wrestling state champion! She pinned all four of her opponents in the first period en route to her state title. Congratulations, Kendra!
Paducah Tilghman High School Orchestra Director and retired band director Douglas Van Fleet was inducted into the Psi Chapter of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity Hall of Fame on Friday February 4, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Mr. Van Fleet is the second band director from PTHS inducted into the Psi Chapter of Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame. Legendary PTHS band director Floyd Burt was the first inducted in 1999.
PTHS and Paducah Middle School Orchestra Director Douglas Van Fleet received the 2022 Presidential Award and Clark Elementary Music Teacher Dale Julian was named 2022 Elementary Music Teacher of the Year at the annual meeting of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. Congratulations!

The PTHS Boys Basketball at St. Mary game scheduled for February 3 has been postponed until Monday, February 7.
The PTHS Boys and Girls Basketball games at McCracken County scheduled for February 4 have been postponed until Thursday, February 10.
Join us this Friday, January 28 as Tilghman Basketball plays Marshall County. In addition, we will honor our seniors, celebrate our homecoming court, and have a homecoming dance. Here's the schedule:

Reminder: 9th – 11th grade students interested in serving on the Student Equity Advisory Council must attend the informational meeting Tuesday night, January 25 at 4:30 PM. The meeting will take place in the Seminar room at the Innovation Hub.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College is accepting nominations for its 5th Annual Regional Educators Awards and Scholarship Program. As you may know, this program promotes the excellent work of administrators, instructors, and staff at schools throughout our 10-county region.
Faculty, staff, students, and parents are encouraged to submit a nomination. The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 14, 2022.

Paducah Tilghman Boys Basketball will pursue a milestone 2000th win in program history when they play Meridian (Mounds IL) Saturday, December 18, 4:00 PM at Otis Dinning Gymnasium. If they win, they will be only the second team in the state to win that many games, and the only school in the state with 800 wins in football and 2000 wins in basketball. Go Big Blue!
The PTHS Choir would like to invite you to our annual Christmas concert on Friday, December 17 at 7:00 located at Immanuel Baptist Church. If you are unable to attend you will still get an opportunity to see the concert as it will be aired on WPSD on Christmas Day.
At the end of our concert we will be taking donations for our friends and neighbors affected by the recent tornados. All donations collected will be going to Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund.

🎶Into The Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by James Lapine. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests.
