National Speech-Language Pathologists Day is celebrated on May 18 each year, which was yesterday, but we wanted to take a moment today to honor and thank the Speech-Language Pathologists who work with the students of Paducah Public Schools. SLPs play a crucial role in helping people of all ages with speech, language, and swallowing difficulties. Their work is crucial, and we're grateful for their partnership and service!

Paducah Tilghman Tennis made a strong showing in the regional tournament, capturing a team boys title along with boys singles and boys doubles individual titles.
The Paducah Tilghman Boys tennis team won the Region One Team Championship on May 10, defeating McCracken County by a score of 3-2 in the championship match. The Paducah Tilghman Girls team finished as region runner-up.
Whitson McNeill is the Boys Singles regional champion for a second time. The Tilghman senior claimed his title with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 win over McCracken County’s Luke Brayboy.
The PT Boys Doubles team of T.J. Duwe and Leyton Morris won the regional championship for Doubles, defeating Asher Shanks and Hayden Taylor of McCracken County 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.
The PT Girls Doubles team of Maddie Duwe and Alex Anderson finished as region runner-up, losing to McCracken County in the championship match.
All champions and runners-up will represent the region in Lexington starting May 27.

Paducah Public Schools is proud to share McNabb Elementary School Librarian Genia Buchanan is the United Way of Western Kentucky Live United honoree for education! Ms. Buchanan was nominated and selected by a committee of community members. The accolade recognizes one person throughout the region who excels in promoting learning. Ms. Buchanan leads McNabb's academic team. She is always leveraging resources to expand the library's collection. Recently, through the support of a donor, Ms. Buchanan was able to upgrade the library's seating area for students. Congratulations, Ms. Buchanan! Thank you for all you do for your students!

Morgan Elementary School staff - past and present - filled last night's Paducah Public Schools Board of Education meeting to celebrate music teacher Kim Davidson.
The First District of the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) recently named Davidson Elementary Music Teacher of the Year.
Davidson had a surprise for the crowd, though! She had just learned the school district's music educators had earned the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation... for the ninth year. (More on that good news to come!)
Congratulations, Mrs. Davidson! Thank you for being a leader in music education, in our district and at Morgan Elementary!

The 18th Annual Paducah Public Schools Foundation Golf Scramble will be held on Friday, August 1, at Paxton Park. Registration at 8 am, shotgun start at 9 am.
The entry fee per team is $400, or $100 for a single player. Prizes will be awarded, and lunch is included. All proceeds support the after school & summer camps at our Innovation Hub Makerspace, which remain free to all district students.

Every year, Kentucky Art Education Association (KyAEA) hosts an art competition beginning at the regional level and culminating in a state-wide show celebrating Kentucky's talented student artists. This year Paducah Tilghman has two 1st place winners: Eleanor Hammonds in Fiber Arts and Cierra Franklin in Jewelry/Metal Arts. These students will be receiving their acknowledgements at the University of Kentucky on May 24th.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will host their annual "Paducah's Got Talent" talent show on Friday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the Paducah Tilghman Auditorium. The show will feature students currently enrolled in elementary, middle, and high school, with cash prizes being awarded for first, second, and third place. Entry applications at available at your student's FRYSC office. All funds received from the talent show will be applied to the Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Fund.

The PTHS Choral Department will be giving its Spring Concert this Sunday, May 4th at 5:30 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church. Doors will open at 5pm. It is free. It will feature the Concert Choir, Men’s Choir, Women’s choir, Choralaires, Prime Rib, Concordia and the 4th grade choir from Morgan Elementary School.
There will be a State Championship Ring Ceremony for PTHS Football Monday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. in the PTHS Auditorium. Visitors are welcome. If you are visiting for the ring ceremony, please enter through the auditorium lobby doors.

Preschool screening for the 2025-26 school year will be held at Paducah Head Start Preschool, 2200 Washington Street, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 2, 2025. Hands of Hope, a local non-profit foundation, has partnered with Paducah Tilghman High School to create a new program called “Road to Excellence”. The purpose of the "Road to Excellence" is to take things back to basics focusing on being present at school, building camaraderie between fellow students, zero tolerance for bullying, and keeping a clear channel of communication between teachers and students.
Since the program began in November of 2024 PTHS has had a near record increase in attendance.
Students will be entered for the chance to win a car at the end of the school year based on their attendance, behavior, and academics!

Paducah Public Schools Board of Education appointed Amina Watkins to board member tonight at a special called meeting. She will serve the remainder of Dr. James Hudson's term after a relocation took him outside the city limits. The board interviewed five other candidates before selecting Watkins. Board Member Janice Howard says, "During the selection process, we were really impressed by how much each candidate loves our schools. And we thank them for their support. We are fortunate to live in a community that values our kids’ education. We found Amina Watkins to be exceptionally passionate about education and how it can make students happy, healthy, and successful." Watkins's first regular board meeting will be Monday, May 12.
