PTHS Junior Board members, African American Leadership Club Members, and Student Equity Advisory Council members met with McCracken County High School leaders on March 3 to discuss an insensitive racially charged photo sent after the PTHS Basketball District Championship Game.
Students present were:
PTHS: Ma’Hali Brown, Savannah Caldwell, Justice Campbell, Chandler Christ, Dasia Garland, Nadia Mayes, Kayleigh Powell, Terrance Robinson, Synia Shaw Laster, Jackson Williams
MCHS: Quintarious Bailey, Abbie Betts, Esley Cornelius, Avery Collins, Zoe Houston, Hannah Locke, Ava Kelly, Donyea Shaw, Lamar Wilson
Students tackled the uncomfortable conversation with respect and authentic feedback of the perceptions of both schools and produced ideas to promote unity among the schools during athletic events. One of the many ideas was the same unity banner that would reflect the words “Crimson & Blue not Black and White”, an idea offered by AALC President Savannah Caldwell.
Also present at the meeting were the principals of both schools, the assistant superintendents of both districts, Shonda Burrus, PPS Chief Equity Officer and Stacey Thomas, MCS Diversity Coordinator.

**************EARLY DISMISSAL TODAY******************
Due to the threat of severe weather, Paducah Public Schools will dismiss early today (Wednesday, April 13).

Our students in the Abilities Classroom have been busy!
The class recently worked with Mrs. Allyson Humphrey, planting seeds for the tower gardens at the Innovation Hub.
They have harvested lettuce several times. Yesterday, they harvested enough leafy greens to feed our staff at PTHS as well as all students who participated in their reward day lunch!

Dylan Howard, who teaches 8th grade Social Studies at Paducah Middle School, spoke to the McCracken County Commission about the positive impact of the Community Scholarship on his education at their meeting on March 28.
Howard was part of a group from West Kentucky Community and Technical College who were present at the meeting to receive a donation from the McCracken County Commission for the Community Scholarship Program.
Howard (PTHS '16) attended WKCTC and MSU to earn a degree in education.
"As a Paducah native and Tilghman graduate, WKCTC's Community Scholarship Program gave me the opportunity to attend school without the crippling debt that comes with college," Howard said. "After graduating from Murray State in 2020, I found myself giving back to the same community that supported me. The Community Scholarship Program has given me opportunities that I never dreamed could be my reality."
The Community Scholarship Program provides scholarship funding for up to 60 credit hours toward a technical certification and/or an associate degree at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, enabling students to complete two years of college tuition-free.
