Coalition for College

This website helps first generation college students and students with great financial need with college advising online tools. Students may apply to the member institutions who help students with financial programs to meet the cost of college.

Questbridge

This program helps match students who have excelled academically but faced financial challenges with full four year college scholarships with participating colleges. Students must be ranked in the top 10% of their class and have a minimum of a 28 ACT composite. The deadline to apply for the Questbridge scholarship program is usually in late September.

List of HBCU Schools

This website provides a list accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the United States. The closest HBCU's are the following: Kentucky State University (Frankfort), Simmons College of Kentucky (Louisville), Tennessee State University (Nashville), Fisk University (Nashville), Lane College (Jackson, TN), Harris-Stowe State University (St. Louis, MO), Le Moyne-Owen College (Memphis).

COLLEGE ATHLETICS

If you are planning on playing sports in college, you must register on the appropriate eligibility center website at the end of your junior year in high school. You will need to request a transcript be sent to the eligibility center where your registered. Forms available in the guidance office. When you take the ACT, you should "bubble" the codes for the NCAA and/or NAIA so that your test scores are sent directly from the testing agency. What is on your transcript is not acceptable to the eligibility centers. You should also download the student handbooks for each eligibility center to make sure you are completing all tasks on time. There is a cost to register with each eligibility center, but fee waivers are available for those who qualify. Qualification information will be available as you create your account. The counselors will check your fee waiver eligibility and approve the request through their counselor account.

NCAA requires that you meet certain core course, GPA, and ACT requirements to be eligible. Check the NCAA website for the list of approved core courses that we offer at PTHS. The NCAA does not accept online credit recovery courses. I

The NAIA requires a certain ACT and GPA to be eligible.

National Junior College Athletic Association

Junior colleges and community colleges offer a variety of college athletics. Are your ACT scores or GPA an obstacle with NAIA or NCAA eligibility? These colleges might be the answer for you. Many junior colleges do an excellent job at helping students transfer to four year universities to continue their education and playing career.
