Landon Snyder, a Paducah Tilghman High School senior, is this week’s Murray State Teen of the Week. Snyder is an aspiring teacher who looks forward to advancing the next generation through education.

Snyder holds a 3.7 GPA and is involved in various school and extracurricular activities. His schedule consists of all Advanced Placement and honor classes, which he said assist him with his future career goals.

“I take all AP and honors classes,” Snyder said. “I’ve always kept a 3.7 to 4.0 GPA, and I’m in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, and Interact Club.”

Snyder intends to attend Murray State University. He plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Then, he plans to return to Paducah to teach elementary education at McNabb or Morgan Elementary, teaching first- through fourth-grade.

“I want to go into the education field because my heart is filled with the love of teaching,” Snyder said. “I see kids daily that don’t have the best home life. I want to be the teacher that shows them the love and appreciation they deserve.”

Both of Snyder’s parents are teachers, and he said that fuels his passion for teaching.

“My parents are big influencers in my career choices,” he explained. “They have been working in education all my life. I want to enhance a child’s life by helping them gain knowledge.”

Andrea English, a Spanish teacher at Paducah Tilghman, said Snyder is an exemplary student who shows true dedication toward teaching.

“He’s such a refreshing kid,” English said. “He truly has a passion for being a teacher. He loves working with kids, and you never see teenagers display a strong passion for education like he does.”

Beyond his passion for teaching, Snyder always lends a helping hand when needed. English said that even when other students are reluctant to assist others, Snyder is always the first to offer his assistance.

“He helps put in the family resource center,” English said. “He has helped teachers move furniture and decorate their rooms, did clerical duties, and assisted with after-school programs.”

Snyder has this advice for his fellow students: “Don’t let people distract you from your passion.”

“If there’s something you’re truly passionate about, do it!” Snyder said. “Don’t let negative stereotypes about your job affect your passion.”
