The Student Equity Advisory Council (SEAC) will collaborate on ways to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools for all students.  Student members will develop and implement ideas and action plans to bring back to their respective schools and community.  The SEAC will be made up of passionate equity-minded students who value advocacy, community, and systemic change. The position of a SEAC team member is a highly regarded appointment.  Members of SEAC will work throughout the district with students and staff in an effort to develop an understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our schools and community. Selected SEAC students are expected to participate in activities both during and outside of regular school hours throughout the school year.  

Purpose:

  • To create safe spaces for student to advocate and support students regarding Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion.
  • To empower the student body through forums, community outreach, and program presentations throughout Paducah Public Schools.
  • To recognize the importance of working together to move ideas into action.
  • To develop and incorporate youth development strategies into activities on campus. 

SEAC Students will

  • Be a group of handpicked students from diverse backgrounds who work together as a team focused on DEI.
  • Become experts in critical issues that impact school climate.
  • Serve as facilitators for group discussion and activities between students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Be trained to implement forum discussions at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels.
  • Be trained to facilitate staff in service forums that mirror student discussions.
  • Be responsible for implementing SEAC parent night to introduce SEAC to the community.
  • Be responsible for planning and implementing one community wide service project per year.
